Delco Stereo 1996 Gmc Suburban Scv Volume Erratic Electrical Issues

Hi --

I need to find a solution to this:

I drive a 1996 GMC Suburban with stock Delco Stereo.

Last year, the volume control went-- Does not work when trying to adjust - has a mind of it's own - works when it wants to. Turn it on and volume will be deafening, only to immediately fade out.

Other times it works perfectly.

So.....Replaced stereo with identical replacement one from ebay. Same problem.

Has to be some kind of electrical issue on the truck.

Any ideas? See below people having similar problems:

Thanks Jimmy

Also note: This has been going on for a while, but more recently I only have the high speed on my blower (resistors blown?) and the changer from floor to dash control has a delay/works when it wants to (actuators?). hmmmm

Hi Cody,

I have been having a problem with my Delco car stereo. The volume

would turn up full volume on its own, then go down, then back up.

There would be days that it would work fine then other days it would

go bizerk. The volume is enough to burst an eardrum. I also noticed

when it finally did work on some days, if I turned off the ignition

then turn it back on the radio volume would go full volume up then

back down then up again.

So, My husband thought it was the volume control. We bought the same

type of radio from ebay and it is doing the same.

Do you know what might be causing this. It doesn't seem it is the radio?

Thank you,

Cathy

Question

I have a 96 GMC Suburban SLE with a radio Cassette and seperate CD

player. It seems that the Speed Compensated Volume is messed up. The

radio volume goes up and down when the vehicle is sitting still or

moving down the road. The volume knob does not work most of the time.

I work with 3 GA Tech electrical engineers who say they can fix it if

they knew where to start. Any Ideas?

Scott,

On some radios the auto volume adjust signal comes from the speed

pulse output signal from the speedometer. This speed pulse is tied

into the electronic volume control circuit inside the radio. I can

give you a better Idea of where to look for problems, however I will

need the complete model number off the radio.

TOM,
