Ignition Key Programming

Aloha everyone,

 

New to the forums, and I tried to search this one with no success, so bear with me if this has been answered already.

 

I have a new 08 2500 Silverado (my new police vehicle), and I need to get spare keys (transponder type). I really don't want to go to the dealer and pay 80.00 each. I did find blanks on the 'net for reasonable money. The rub is that the vendor states that for 07 and up only a few Chevy vehicles, not including the Silverado, can have the keys programmed without taking it to the dealer. So my question is:

 

Has anyone with an 07-08 Silverado programmed keys themselves??

Hi there and welcome to GM Trucks!

 

I don't really have any advice to offer on the key programming. Other than vaguely remember reading something somewhere on the net on how to program new passlock 3 keys. I would start there with researching passlock 3.
