Gm Tailgate Theft Deterrent And Tilt Sensor

I have a 2008 Silverado 1500 2LT, 5.3L, 2WD. I am looking into GM part number 19154431 the tailgate theft deterrent sensor I would like to know how this is connected up prior to spending the money. I have the Helm service manuals but they don't say anything about connecting that up since it is a GM accessory and not a GM option, I don't think. It talks about the tilt and shock sensors, 13-204, but doesn't show actual connector locations. I didn't think these 2 sensors were options either but they are in these manuals. Anyways, can someone tell me where these sensors plug into? Or if they really are in the Helm manuals, can you tell me where? I'm still trying to figure out how these manuals are setup, the way certain things are explained and everything. Thank you in advance.

Never even heard of it, and I've had 3 GM trucks, one was an LT2...It's either a never-used option or one of those random RPOs that someone made up.

It's a GM accessory. I am curious to know if anyone has used it and if they can give me some information. Someone has to use it, why would GM continue to sell it if they didn't move them.

There are actually three available options, I have all three on my 08 Sierra Denali. I highly recommend dealer installation on any or all three as they all require modification to the BCM harness and they all require BCM programming to get them activated.

19154431 Tailgate Theft Deterrent: This is a simple microswitch that installs near the tailgate hinge on the left side of the vehicle. The kit comes with the harness, switch, and installation aids. It basically acts the same as if you open the door when the alarm is activated.

17800431 Shock Sensor: This installs under the dash on the drivers side and has an adjustment for sensitivity. The kit includes the module, harness and installation accessories. Additionally, the harness includes the connector for the "Wheel Theft Deterrent" sensor so if you are doing both the installation is the same as doing one.

17800432 Wheel Theft Deterrent Sensor: This is an inclination sensor that also mounts under the dash. It sets off the alarm if someone jacks the truck up high enough top get a wheel off. The included harness does not support the shock sensor so if you are doing both you need to use the harness from the shock sensor.

These are all dealer installed accessories, not factory options, and again, they absolutely require BCM programming and BCM connector modifications. If you do not have the required Delphi tools do NOT do these mods yourself, you will screw up your BCM harness!! Also, verify that these part numbers are correct for YOUR truck!!

And the total cost for parts and installation???

Inclination Sensor: $135

Tailgate Sensor: $195

Shock Sensor: $110

I guess installation was a couple hundred bucks as I had a bunch of other stuff done at the same time.

thats what i did and it works great!

i got the motion sensor too...

i say go after market it works just as good/better because i got the pager to along with it

How does a Viper alarm work in conjuntion with the power locks and everything, does the factory alarm have to be disabled somehow?

I will probably get slammed on this, but you could hose clamp the right side of the tailgate hinge so it cannot be removed without a tool. I know it is not electronic, but hopefully they will go to the next truck in the lot and take that one instead. They steal tailgates in cycles at any large sporting event, fair, anywhere they can get a mass of vehicles in a parking lot in the DFW area. It will at least give you some time while you wait for the GM part. Of course this only works if you do not have to remove it that much.

I just called the Dealer Parts Dept and asked about 17800431 & 432 Shock & Wheel sensors.

He says I don't have AUO or UK3, which is required for installation of these parts. Not sure why?

This is a 2009 Silverado ECNB with remote start.

Anyone know the reason why I can't install these parts?

Got one installed along with the tailgate handle lock from Pace Edwards...works very well.

    • Very interesting thread. Definitely didn’t expect to see this kind of mileage out of that engine.
    • Just did an injector/HPFP replacement on Pepper at 192,400 miles; close enough to 200K, RIGHT? (If 200K is considered life end and to me it isn't). But hey, to each his own.    Have never run a catch can on this vehicle. Back side of every valve looked like a new valve spray painted semigloss black. Port walls looked 'neat' (all a normal result of passive EGR via VVT) Zero build up even in AFM cylinders. Just color. It uses no measurable oil and never has.    At 155,000 I put her on E-85 and a borescope of the cylinders at plug change showed very clean pistons and valve faces. The replaced injector tips looked new. (It was the pump piston seal that was leaking). Oh well, have six good backups.    Still gets 28 mpg on gas (highway average) and over 20 (highway) on alky. UOA's look good and runs as good now as it did when I bought it. Better in fact.    What improvement would a Catch Can provide this motor?     And given all this I expect that IF I installed one I'd see some water/gas/oil vapor accumulation. Byproducts of normal combustion.   Having said that, IF my motor used an appreciable amount of oil I'd consider it a useful 'crutch' until I had the situation corrected OR if bore polished, until I junked it or rebuilt it to stave off repeated plug fouling.    I'm not telling you what I THINK. But what its DONE.
    • Love the look. I'm a SCSB lover myself.    Two items. 1.) A spacer changes scrub radius but this also changes when we use wheels of different offsets. A little isn't a big deal. 2.) Steel wheels, alloy wheels all have different thickness. Same effect on the stud and lug nut as a spacer. When hub centric the wheel isn't supported by the stud. It's supported by the hub. The stud just keeps it all together.
    • I had a evap sol go bad a couple weeks ago. . I replaced it.  While watching live data at the time I saw I had some cylinder 1 misfires. No MIL but on live data I could see ~50 at startup and about 70 more after an hour a drive all on cyl 1.  I also noticed that the LTFT were -5% to -15% always.  And that bank 2 is always -3% richer than bank 1. Even across all driving modes, city, highway, etc it’s always 3% richer than bank 1. So I start with the misfire. Swapped coil, plug, and plug wires from 1 to 3. No follow. I got an Injector reseal kit, pulled the D/s injector rail, swapped #1 and #3 injectors, resealed them, reinstalled and retested.  The misfire followed to 3. So I ordered and replaced all 8 injectors, spark plugs, and plug wires. Also replaced the 1 time use fuel pipes under the intake manifold.  Injectors that were in the truck since new were  Part # 12668390.  I replaced them with # 12742701 Got from RockAuto. Pretty certain they’re genuine and the correct ones. I called a friend at a parts store who told me “the 12742701 were the correct superseded part # for the originals I was replacing”. So started truck after replacing all that and it’s running -15 - -30 LTFTs. I reset the fuel trims with GDS2 and drove it for a 60 miles trip each way. There have been no changes in the LTFTs.  I checked if the HPFP was leaking into the crankcase. I removed the pvc and watched the trims. No difference.  I checked the alcohol content and it was at 10%  I’m out of ideas here. Truck seems to run great. Just always rich on the fuel trims.  Anyone with any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.  I ran an injector balance test just for the heck of it and it came back this. I’m confused.  I have gds2 and some other diag tools if anyone knows of anything I should test next.
