Trying to get the best estimate of HD mileage in various situations....

 

For those folks that get exceptionally good mileage, please note what you have done to increase the mpg so the rest of us can opt for the higher numbers.

 

Those folks with exceptionally poor mpg, please give an indication as to why...

yep, another 6.0 mpg poll reponse-HA!

 

Add'l info needed like gears/tires/etc because my CCLB with 285's, steel wheels, and 4.10s will get worse MPGs than just about any other 6.0 because of weight.

 

I guess that doesn't matter though as you looking for reasons for good mpgs-nevermind

Ok , I get about 12-13 with 285/75 on. It used to get about 15 with stockers. I just towed a couple of four wheelers on a 16' trailer and got 10 mpg. This is all mostly highway miles.

was getting an average of 20 mpg on hiway with stock 245/75R16 and 3.73 gears, no aftermarket tuning, hard tonneau cover, moved to 285/60R18 and mileage went down at least 1 point but still trying to find out exactly

I added an AFE stage II cold air intake and changed all my fluids over to amsoil, have no problem getting 15-16 mpg highway with 4.10,s and the 245/75's on steel wheels at 75-80 mph with hills.

I get 14-15 with averaging 41MPH per tank, but pure highway I can get 17-18MPG. With stock tires I used to average 16MPG but the 265's killed my mileage. I have a tune and magnaflow exhaust. I will note that our gas stations now use E10 exclusively and my MPG went down a gallon because of it.

In the city I average about 12mpg. Highway around 13-14. But while towing my travel trailer (35ft toyhauler) I get 8-9mpg! It sucks but you can't do the types of things I like to do driving a Prius!!!

My 08 hd NBS CCSB 4wd gets 11 no matter what i do. It has the 6spd with 373's, and i feel like it can't pull its own weight. It is constantly shifting either for hills or head winds. I have 285 coopers on it with a ready lift torsion key kit installed. Towing an 18 foot boat I'll get 8 or 9. On the highway i'm lucky to break 11.5 unloaded. I hate it, so i've been lookin for the old body style diesels.

I get 11-12 in the city and 14-16 on the highway. Mine also shifts more but that's the nature of the 6spd. The more gears the tranny has, the more it's gonna shift to keep it in the powerband it requires.

Driving like a granny I get about 14.7 with mine on the highway. 02 ECSB 4x4 4.10's 265's

About 12-13 around town and about 9 towing a 4000# 4Runner on a 3000# 24' trailer. Last weekend I smoked about 3/4 tank towing 130 miles trying to run 80 with hills. I need to chip this thing bad. But I drive a car most of the time and only use the truck for towing and hauling

Does anyone make a good programer that will get more than 1 mpg better than stock for these motors? Most of the ones i've research don't really do that much better for 400 bucks. If anyone knows i'd love to hear about it before i trade mine in.

I had a Diablo Predator on my 07 Classic...supposed to be the best of the hand held programmers....worthless in my opinion. Mpg did not change and the preformance increase was barely noticeable....shifted damn hard at 4500 rpm or above. It came with a 30 day return guarantee....I kept it about two weeks.

 

I am in the process of getting a custom tune and most folks that have them say they are good for 1-3 mpg....we'll see!

My Crew Cab Short Bed 4x4 05 2500HD 6.0L got a highest of 13.8mpg summer city, 12.9 in winter, 12.6 after Flowmaster mufflers.

 

Never had it on the highway, never towed.

I remember a steady 14 mpg out of my 2000 6.0. Now it gets 11ish. Has anyone had improvements by changing the O2 sensors on high mileage rigs? Mine has 240k and I wonder if my milage is suffering because the O2s are worn. My 98 suzuki car mileage improved from 32 to 37 with O2 sensor replacement.

If they're the original O2 sensors It sure wouldn't hurt, the degrade over time and there is a lot of leeway in the computer before they will set a code. Do the pre cat ones as they set the mixture.

I get a steady 14.5mpg mixed driving.

      You can always count on greed to prey on ignorance and stupidity.    Friend bought a 2019 Ford Flex and asked me about using Valvoline R&P 5W30 in it. Told him give the miles on it and the fact it wasn't yet using oil that it was a good plan. He uses a Valvoline quick change shop for his oil service.   First they tell him that isn't the oil the OEM recommends. He told them he didn't care what the OEM thought. Then they floated the, "But it will void your warranty"    His reply was it's a 2019, there is no warranty and informed them their knowledge of the law was lacking.    Then they tell him 'But it will ruin your motor"!.    Mine to ruin he says. Finally they give in and charge him 150% the semi-syn price    Point it the brainwash is so embedded that even the service industry is drunk on their swill. The public is right behind them. Echoing the same lies on every forum and media platform. If the end goal is indeed EV then I'd say that ship is about built.

      2026 6.6 L5P oil cooler leaking oil at 4,000 miles

      New to diesel trucks. I happened to find my oil cooler leaking oil externally with only 4,000 miles on the truck. I didn’t realize this was an issue until I started researching it. Dealer is going to replace it under warranty but I’m wondering if there’s anything GM is working on to fix this issue. I’ve heard the oil filter used is the same as they use on their V6 motors and that’s what is causing the problems. Should I switch to a bigger filter or keep using the OEM recommended?

      So, GMCustomerService:  Judging by the Update History pictured above, is this truck missing any updates that it actually needs. If it's just for the infotainment system, the radio is working fine and no trouble with SeriusXM. and Android Auto is working fine wirelessly with my phone. Some months ago, an update notice was sent to my truck. I approved the update and it finished saying that the update was successful, but it seems that whatever that update was, it didn't actually get installed - at least not if I'm to go by the Update History shown above.   So, again, are there any updates that this truck really should have? I've checked with my dealer but they're reluctant or commit to anything and if I want them to check, they require a $200.00 fee just to check it out and then I'd have to pay for the actual update(s).    Ignorance is bliss, and if none of the updates goes to fixing any mechanical discrepancies, I'll just leave things as is.
