4x4 Problems 2008 Silverado

Was cruising down the road the other day and noticed that the Driver Information screen below the speedometer read "Check 4x4." The dial to switch on the 4x4 was also inoperable.

Was wondering if anyone else has heard of this problem occurring with the newer Silverado's. I am planning on running over to a local Chevy dealership this week to have it checked out.

Haven't seen any issues with the 4x4 system yet on these new "GMT900" trucks.

I'm guessing its one of three things.....The switch itself,The shift control module,or a programming issue. But again,These are just guesses from issues on past models.

Let us know what they find out.

I had the same message come up on my truck after replacing the OEM radio with an aftermarket radio. I thought it was related to the radio so I took off the dash and check all the connections. What I noticed was I didn't plug in the 4X4 harness all the way. It was snapped in but I guess it wasn't snugged in all the way. I unplugged the harness and replugged it back and the message went away from the DIC. Give that try, it could be the harness is a bit lose.

It seems the problems gone away. I never ended up making it down to the dealership, but the Service 4x4 message went away after a couple days.

To be sure it wasn't a loose connection I pulled off the panel and re-secured the plug. Lookin good

Since my last post, I've had the same problem with the service 4x4 about 5 more times. I took it into the dealership and they said it was a faulty 4x4 switch. Gettin her replaced next week.

Anyone else had this problem?
