OK GUYS I HAVE BEEN HEARING FROM A COUPLE OF MY FRIENDS THAT YOU CAN PUT LS1 MOTOR PARTS ON A SIERRA OR SILV. TRUCK AND MAKE GOOD HP GAINS. MY FRIEND HAS A BUDDY THAT HAS A 04 SILVERDO WITH A 5.3 AS WELL AS MY 5.3 99 SIERRA AND WHAT HE GOTS IS AN INTAKE MANIFOLD FUEL RAIL AND INJECTORS AIR FLOW OR MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR FROM A ZO6 DONT RECALL THE YEAR I THINK ITS AN 05 OR 04. BUT I DONT REALLY BELIEVE HIM BUT HE SWEARS THATS ITS TRUE AND CLAIMS IT HAS AROUND 400TO 500 HP SINCE ITS ALSO TUNED HAS CAM ETC. WHAT I WANT TO KNOW IF ITS REALLY POSSIBLE TO DO ALL THAT AND IF I NEED TO DO MUCH MODS TO COMP DONT HAVE MUCH INPUT FROM FRIEND SINCE HE NO LONGER HAS MUCH CONTACT WITH THAT PERSON SO AM LEFT WITH SO MANY QUESTIONS, SINCE I WANT TO MAKE MORE POWER. IHAVE A 99 SIERRA WITH AROUND 110K WITH AN K N INTAKE AND FLOWMASTER EXHUAST LOWERED WITH BELLTECH AND HAVE 22'S AND WANT TO HAVE TRUE POSI!!!! ANY INPUT?? THANKS

LS1 intake manifold = junk.

You have an air sensor

Cams and heads for LS1's will work on 5.3's. Some are better options than others.

Eaton makes limited slip differentials for 8.5" 10 bolt axles.

The LS1 is also part of the Gen III engine family. All parts are interchangeable, so yes, it's possible to stick LS1/LS6 parts into your truck engine. Heads and cams are where the power would be made. Unless you're willing to replace all accessory drive parts and brackets, the intake tube on the trucks will not be able to mate up to a standard LS1/LS6 intake. The water pump pulley and fan will be in the way. However, the truck intake isn't all that bad. You lose the power at 5500 RPM+ compared to the LS1 intake and gain some lower end torque - which is what you'd want for a truck.

I'd start with a cam. GM now sells a high-output 5.3 (the LS327), and the significant difference is the cam. They use the LS1(01-03)/LQ9 cam in that engine (part number 12561271). They claim 327 HP out if it, which is a nice boost over a stock 5.3 ('99 would be 285HP if I recall). I'd probably shy away from LS1 or LS6 heads initially as they have larger combustion chambers. That would drop your compression ratio somewhat and cost you power. You could regain that by milling the heads, but that costs money and there's a limit to how much can be taken off stock heads.

I'm planning on getting a junkyard 5.3 and having it bored out to 5.7L dimensions. With good heads and cam, it should easily pump out 400HP. Cam choice??? dunno yet. Most LS1 cams are designed for high RPM power rather than low end torque. This won't be that cheap though.

If you want to know all about this stuff, there are a number of books out there you can reference. The one I refer to most is "How to Build High-Performance Chevy LS1/LS6 V-8s" by Will Handzel.

+1

I would go with a complete LS6 top end, heads, cam, intake, and a complete exhaust, that will REALLY wake up your truck.

Yes, all LSx cams are swappable. Everything on the LSx platform is swappable, to a certain extent. I wouldn't waste time with that cam, my truck is making in the neighborhood of 300hp at the WHEELS with an intake, cat back, Comp 212 218 cam, and tune. I also wouldn't waste time with stock LS1 heads or intake. I wouldn't waste time with the LS6 (01-02 car) intake for that matter.

I didn't loose any low end power, and gained power everywhere else. It feels a bit better down low, and at 3000 rpm it really picks up all the way to 6100~ rpm. With that cam and a good custom tune I run 14.4's @ 96 mph in the 1/4 mile, in a 4400~lb vehicle it equates to the neighborhood of 300 rwhp...and my 5.3 is rated @ 285 at the crank stock, I've seen stock dynos of 5.3 show from 220-240 rwhp. A good cam and a good tune really does work wonders on trucks. The cam I have is by no means radical, it's very mild, I'm running LS6 valve springs which cost $50 and Trickflow 7.4" hardened pushrods which cost $80 on Summit.

I'm putting in LS1 E-fans and now have drag radials, so hopefully that puts me in the 14.2-14.1 range in good weather. Edit: Then the 4l80 is going in and I'm upping the N20.

the comp 218 218 cam you got is it very noticable? and if you could do yout hink you could post a sound clip or something to kinda give an idea?

Yeah I'll get an idle clip soon, now that my cats are empty it sounds hella better.

It's a pretty decent increase over stock, it works well with the stock torque converter. For such a mild cam it rocks IMO. I drove it around with no tune for a while and it drove fine.
