Trans Cooler Cracked

Recommended Posts

Yesterday was mud bogging my 99 Z71, and shorty after the first couple of mud pits my trans started to slip so I stopped real fast and it there was a crack in the cooler. So I by passed it with some hose, and am woundering what could of caused this. A guy that helped me said it was from flying through the water and the cooler couldn't take the pressure of water hiting it. Also what is a good replacement? Thanks

Your OE cooler is a stacked plate designed cooler. Hayden supplies our (CARQUEST) ultra coolers and we offer them in several sizes but the aftermarket coolers are not going to have the quick connect ends like your OE cooler did. Just be sure you get a stacked plate cooler and not a tube an fin. I would also recommend you stay with the 3/4" thick model and not the 1.5" models.

If you live in a warm climate, I would suggest upgrading to a larger cooler like the 9" x 11" or the 11" x 11".

Here is a shot of my 11" x 11" that I used to replace my OE cooler.

Shock of banging around off road, force of water hitting it, poor construction, metal fatigue, age........ Take your pick. Replace it with a quality built unit and be on your way.
