Silverado Headers

hello, i have a 2004 silverado with 58,000 miles on it. i have a flowmaster exhaust system. at times when i slow down it kind of blubbers. a buddy of mine that races told me it's because of back pressure. so i am thinking of putting headers on the truck. im looking at JBA and OBX headers. would this cure the back pressure problem? would it very costly to have a local muffler shop install them? i do not have all of the proper tools or welding knowledge to do it myself.

Don't get rid of too much back pressure, or else you'll lose low end torque. The headers will reduce back pressure, and aren't very hard to install. Just find a buddy who knows how to weld. Other than welding them onto the exhaust pipes, they basically just bolt on. Honestly, your best bet would be to A.) Ditch the Flowmaster or B.) Live with it

i wanted to have something better looking than the rusty headers on there now. the heat shields have fallen off due to the harsh winters around here. i was also looking to add a little more horsepower. i don't want to loose any of the performance that i already have. so if taking the factory headers off would take away any performance i will just forget the whole idea.

I'm not saying there isn't performance to be gained with a nice set of headers, I'm just saying that too little back pressure can cause a loss in low end power. Wait for someone more qualified then me to come along with better answers. I just sorta make stuff up sometimes.

I had Gibson shorty headers, and true dual 2.5" exhuast with Dynomax ultraflow mufflers on my 2002 5.3. I could tell a good difference in perfomance. Shouldn't have to weld anything. The Gibson's just bolted right up. Did it myself and really didn't need any fancy tools. Just some wrenches and sockets.
