New Engine For The 99 Yukon

Recommended Posts

Posted

I have a 99 Yukon wiht about 115k on it. The other day I lost an engine cooler line and she quit on me. From talking with the guy that builds race engines locally, he says the noises the engine makes under power mean it's toast.

The list of parts to rebuild is long and sucks, so I'm looking to just replace it with another used engine.

My problem is trying to determine what year 350 will fit it. If I get an older carb'd engine, can I swap it to fuel injection by swapping the intake from my current engine onto it? What else should I be looking for to ensure compatibility?

I'm going to keep looking online and see what I can find. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

1996 to 2000 5.7 (350) from a truck, van, or SUV should fit it pretty easily. You may have to swap external stuff depending on what it came out of. Anything before 96 gets tricky. Sensors that need to be there are not and the block is different in places. I am told that 2000 was the last year of a standard production truck 5.7 that will interchange.

Hope that helps.

you could pick any 350 if you like, Holley makes a bolt on easy wired ,fuel injection kit ( Holley Pro Jection) for around 980 bucks.

http://www.car-part.com is another great place to look. Many modern salvage companies are members there all over the states.

Wow, that's a great site! I found all kinds of cloth seats I've been hunting for! Thanks for posting that!

That helps alot, thank you.

Craigslist was where I'd gotten the idea to swap in an older engine. There are a handful here for sale at a very reasonable price.

$980 is a bit steep for my swap. I'm hoping I can get an engine for between $500-$650 and swap it in myself, to add another $1k on top of it would be a bit much right now at my present financail situation.

However, I'd like to build a Truggy (truck built into an off-road buggy) sometime when I'm more financially stable, and that may end up on there.

Thanks for the help

Sorry to hear about your bad luck. Over heating will kill an engine. To bad you couldn't afford a new engine, but I feel your financial pain. I just hate the thought of you buying a used engine, and the thing not be worth a crap. Good luck.

You're going to be pretty hard-pressed for a running motor for that price range unfortunately. I'd check on crate motors from your local parts store or Chevy house. You'd get a warranty with those.

Zembonez is right, any 350 (vin code R) will bolt right in.

For $500-$650 your going to be hard pressed to find a new engine. IMO your better off with a rebuild kit or a junkyard engine.

Good luck.
