Flashing Cel, Apparent Misfiring, And Rough 1-2 Shifts, Wtf?

Just stepped outside to run to the local CVS, started the truck, put in in gear and took off down the street. Within an 1/8th of a mile the CEL started flashing, the engine began to misfire and the next time I took off from a stop, and from then on, the 1-2 shifts were very rough. I turned around, of course, and headed home and now have to wait until Monday to call the service department. What a great way to begin the weekend! Oh well.

I've done some searching and most everything I've found indicates a flashing CEL equates to a misfire condition. This would make sense as I definitely noticed that during the short drive. The rough shift is what's got me puzzled. Not sure how a misfire would effect the transmission but that's what you fellas are for! I realize you really have no info whatsoever here (waiting for my buddy to get home to get the scanner) but anyone have any ideas?

Limp home mode? I would think the systems were not communicating correctly to each other.

Hopefully you can get it fixed on Monday daddy!

Sorry to hear this daddy. If your luck run's like mine does, shit alway's happens when the cold weather arrives. Hope you can get it figured out with the scanner, at least you will have something to go on when you take it in. Good luck.

As always, I would try simply leaving the battery unhooked for thirty minutes and then trying it again. Could just be an electrical gremlin. Did you get gas recently?

Nope. Half full. Last drive was 2 flawless hours.

I'll try the battery route though. My buddy has his scanner loaned out so I am SOL with that anyway.

Don't be a baby Tobias, drive it to the dealer. I drove my truck 60 miles on a dead plug. If anyone knows about misfires it's me! :D These engines are pretty tough.

daddy,

Report to us what your DTC's are. I just checked thru GM's database, and what happened to your truck is not popular; not too many TSB's on misfires.

There ARE a few TSB's on misfires related to four cylinders though (active-fuel related cylinders)

Watch for Cylinders 1,4,6, and 7 having History or Current misfires.

If your truck is affected, the cylinder heads will have to be removed for access to lifters. Good engine Techs could have your truck done in a day.

Let us know what you find...

Well, I'm going the unhooked battery route right now as my buddy (Snap-On dealer) has his scanner lent out at the moment. If the condition stays I plan to run it by Advance Auto tomorrow or on the way to the dealer Monday. I hate taking it to a dealer without at least half a clue what's going on before I get there. They haven't screwed me or anything but I still like to know, just in case.
