Water In Stock Air Box

Recommended Posts

While doing my normal oil change/chassis lube routine I decided to crack open the air box and take a look at the filter.

I removed the filter and to my surprise there was approx. 1/8 inch of water in the bottom of the box. It's been raining here the past few days, but nothing more than drizzle/light rain.

The filter itself appeared to be dry and the top of the air box was tightly secured.

I don't think it's anything to worry about, but I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this.

Nope, not even with on my open air intake on my old truck. Was the air box loose or lifted from anywhere? I'd buy a new filter just in case.

It didn't appear loose and all four screws on the top of the box were tight.

Got home last night and I noticed the new AirRaid CAI I ordered sitting on the front porch, so I'm sending the stocker to the showers since it seems to like water anyway.

The open element on the AirRaid should make it easier to determine if water is still getting in.

I think it's condensationfrom sucking in 100% humidity air on a cool day. If you didn't open it and drove another day, it would evaporate and be dry as a bone inside again. My theory!

I've noticed water in my airbox too a couple of times. I never have figured it out. Which is why I am worried about sealing the box to the fender. I am sure that I will get more water in the box if the tires throw water up to it. Maybe that is what is causing your problem. The water was being thrown up into the airbox.

That's a definite possibility. As Jim (good name by the way) stated earlier it could also be condensation from sucking in cool humid air.

Installed the AirRaid CAI this afternoon so I'll be able to just open the hood and check on the H2O situation.
