Dual Exhaust

Could somebody tell me what the difference would be on using two mufflers instead of one on a dual exhaust? Will there be a power difference or just more costely? Crew Cab 5.3

A true dual exhaust should have two mufflers and an 'x' or 'h' pipe ('x' is better) for exhaust scavanging. This setup will give you the best increase in hp and torque because of increased flow and a better tone. Two tailpipes that exit the muffler are not dual exhaust and are mostly for show. As the exhaust travels to the muffler through a single pipe, you will do very little this way to reduce backpressure. You will get very little power gain from a set-up like this. It will be cheaper though. Depending on what you are looking to accomplish, the twin tailpipe route may or may not ne a waste of money.

^^^ I agree mostly with what you say. Single muffler systems generally make more low end torque. True duals will help upper rpm power (some) Neither system will give big HP gains but if you with too much flow, you can actually lose low end torque. It is true that dual pipes on a single muffler system are just for looks.

There are some single-muffler setups that do a dual-in/dual-out with built-in crossovers. They're probably cheaper (and easier to fit under your truck) than two single-in/single-out mufflers would be if you're looking for a true-dual setup.
