Pepboys Brakes?

Hi, I'll be in USA, and i would like to buy a front pads for my truck and a friend told me about PEPparts, and Discount Autoparts products?

Are these products good?

I'm not sure what pads they use, but I think they're on the same level as AutoZone or any other discount auto parts store. That being said, they're probably not that great. I suggest looking into Akebono (also sold at CARQUEST as CARQUEST brand Gold pads) or Raybestos pads. They seem to be the most popular for our trucks right now. ACDelco (GM replacement parts division) pads probably wouldn't be too bad, but I think the former two would be better.

EDIT: After looking at their website, it appears that they sell Hawk brand pads, which have a decent reputation, as well as ProStop pads, which sounds familiar although I can't say I recognize them.

I just replaced the rotors & pads on my burb with Raybestos parts(purchased at Kragen).I've used 'em before and they seem to hold up well. Also,I used what Raybestos calls''heavy duty for towing" pads.Supposedly no dust..they do stop pretty welland smooth

So you recommend me when i get in Miami, go to Carquest?

Ok, I'll add it to my GPS right now! thank you!

which one series do i have to buy?

I always tell 'em the ones with minimum brake dust....mostly ceramic I believe, but there are others.Ask the guy at the counter...he'll advise you

Get the Gold pads, they're ceramic, VERY quiet (I haven't had a single peep, yet), and make little dust. Since I finally cleaned my front wheels, I've had no brake dust build up on them. They also should last a bit longer than regular semi-metallic pads. I should forewarn you, though, that they won't be cheap. Expect to pay at least $60.

If you do end up at one of our stores (CARQUEST) you want the Gold PCD ceramic pads by Akebono. We still sell a Gold metalic pad supplied to us by Rabestos. It is also a great pad but will produce more dust than the PCD Ceramics by Akebono.

Hey Trey... You think the Akebonos are an upgrade worthy item to the OEM pads performance wise?

Oops, I guess I should have been more specific. :puke:

Zembonez, for a quick response, C & A s Dad has told me through PM that Akebono pads were actually factory parts for early and later GMT800s, so I'd bet they're probably factory on the GMT900s. However, C & A s Dad could probably give you a definite response.
