Need Help With Adding Factory Navi

hey anybody that can help me. i got an 04 GMC sierra SLE EC. it has steering wheel controls and Bose. now iv been reading in about lux and non lux bose... what does that mean. the front doors on my truck say Bose on the speaker grilles but i am not sure if i have a sub in the console ( it doesn't really sound like i do or feel like it ). i want to buy a factory navigation head unit, preferably a touch screen. what should i look for? and will i be able to use steering wheel controls with the head unit. i know that i will have to reprogram the unit for my VIN, that will not be a problem. any useful information will help. also about the VSS and if i will still have XM compatibility. another important thing will be could i add a factory CD changer and be able to listen to a cd while using navigation option. thank you, i am sort of lost

I would say you do not have the LUX model. I believe it is code Y91, forget the one for the Non-Lux. I added a Touch Screen Nav Part #1580000 to my 04 Avalanche that had Bose. Everything worked from the steering wheel controls. I didn't have Onstar. Mine did not have the VSS wire. I could have tapped in behind the instrument cluster but I found it worked fine without doing that, although it seemed to take a drive of a few miles in a straight line before it would update smoothly. I didn't have XM either, but I would think there wouldn't be a problem. I got mine from a guy called machomachodan or something like that. I think he goes by maxpower_mi on ebay. He can clear the Vin lock so you don't have to go to the dealer.

How hard was it to install the antenna and do you have a part number? If one opted for the Y91 Lux system will it work with the current wiring? Any idea how hard to change the amp to the lux system?

It's not overly difficult to install the antenna in the correct spot. I'm going by memory here as I don't have the Av anymore. You have to remove the dash pad, which means you have to take out the light sensor and a couple of vents on the passenger side and unhook the grab handle over the glove box. I had read that other people were just puttin it under the dash pad on some heating vents. Thats what I did, wrapped it in foam and stuffed it ontop of a vent, but under the dash pad. Worked fine.

I don't have the part number for the antenna.

You can convert over to Lux system but you have to find a Lux amp and then re-pin the connectors. I think you also have to have the head unit programmed. I don't know anymore about that, but if you search on this Avalanche site there are people who have done it.

I did take pictures when I was putting mine in but I don't have a photo sharing site to post them to.

If you want simple plug and play get a non-lux, which is the part number I listed. I didn't have Onstar or XM, before or after.
