Cd Player Not Working Right

just bought a 2006 GMC sierra with the 6 disc changer and bose system and the player wont cycle through the songs right. i can play the cd straight through but if i try to skip a couple of songs then it spits the cd out and says check cd. just wondering if this is common and if there is a fix.
