I read a post where a guy sanded his down smooth and spray painted it. He used primer ,paint and clear coat it looked real good.I am thinking about trying it.

Check ebay, you 'll see it on there most of the time, and I'll take the old one off your hands.

I did not know they were all black. The handles I see on Ebay are advertised as factory takeoff's? I was thinking maybe the SLT models were painted. I'll have to keep an eye out for one.

I've seen painted ones on Ebay too. They must be aftermarket items but it they fit and look good... what the heck!

I believe at least some of the ones on ebay are being smoothed/painted and sold by a body shop. Several of the postings stated that the handles/bezels were available in the paint code of your choice. I haven't seen them for less than $125 BUY-IT-NOW, plus shipping...seems a bit steep to me. I bought a new locking tailgate handle kit for $42 and sent it out for paint...I'll let you what it costs for paint when I get it back from the bodyman...

To my knowledge the painted tailgate handle is part of a door and tailgate handle kit from GM, don't know if you can order the tailgate handle separate. I put the chrome handles and painted bezels on my crew cab but the tailgate handle and bezel is painted. I would have thought the tailgate handle would have been chrome???? The painted tailgate handles may also be for an SS ??

As of now, no trim package includes a painted tailgate bezel/handle.. U will have to do like me and paint it urself or get a body shop to do it....

If anybody finds a good source for these... you can count me in as a buyer for a group buy! That giant black tupperware piece on the tailgate looks like crap.
