I have an 08 Silverado with the factory stereo (not bose) and think the speakers could use some upgrading but i just want to change the speakers and not have a crazy install so I was thinking of replacing the behind the seats with infinity Kappa 462.9cfp and the doors with infinity Kappa 50.9cs. I wants to be simple and be able to put the factory speakers back in without noticing. What do you think? Thanks in advance!

I did something very similar recently with swapping my stock speakers and tweeters with a set of Polk components. I noticed upgraded sound, but was not happy at all with them. The speakers weren't being utilized like they were intended. The factory stereo isn't going to push more than about 6 watts per channel so your speakers will begin distorting much sooner than you would expect.

Anyway, the point is that you can upgrade the speakers, but you probably won't be as happy as you think because aftermarket speakers can handle so much more. Without amping the speakers, you can pretty much buy just about any brand because they won't be pushed to really enjoy the speakers the way they were designed.

Hope this helps!

Too true. Your not going to notice a huge difference in aftermarket speakers on a stock headunit. Adding an external amplifier and/or sound deadening in the doors will help A LOT. You can start by forgetting the speakers in the rear and instead using that money towards an amp or sound deadening for the fronts.

We're having a good discussion about this in another thread: http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=87274
