Cold Weather Startup

I have another for you smart folks. I'm not sure where I got this idea from, but I thought I heard that putting your vehicle in neutral during very cold weather while it is warming up will help warm the trans. This supposed to loosen things up a bit before taking off in -20 degree temps and the like. Would this cause any probs to the trans? Would this be a waste of time anyways? Thanks dudebros....

I do not see how that would make a bit of difference. The only difference between park and neutral is a mechanical gear. The fluid is still flowing in the same manner both ways.

My dad always used to put the car in neutral to start it in really cold weather, like way below zero (north dakota), because he said that the fluid won't pump through the cooler and will warm faster. This was on 70's and 80's model cars so I'm not sure about modern trannys.

Fluid is always being pumped. The only difference between park and neutral is the park sprag/pin that keep the vehicle "parked".

+40 BAZIILION.

The converter is spinning the input shaft. Fluid is being pumped. There is no magic gear that stops fluid from traveling through the cooler lines. Where does this stuff come from?
