Remote Start Intermittent

I think it has happened more often since the weather has cooled down, but my factoy remote start system sometimes starts the truck but then the engine dies like it didn't get enough gas on start. This trips the system into not letting me attempt to start it again remotely. Grrrr. Anyone with a similar problem?

To do the second remote start.. I think you have to push the lock button, THEN the start button.

I had that happen once about a month ago, and has never happened since. Every morning I start the truck remotely and let it warm up, but I will be curious to see what other answers you get in case it does happen again.

my truck does the samething but my dealer cant find anything wrong so let me know what u come up with

My Acadia did this all last winter - turned out it was the ethanol in the fuel making the engine miss it's target idle and causing the engine to die. My dealer put injector cleaner through it and it has not done it since. He stated that they just guessed at it because there was a TSB about the ethanol in some of the fuels causing idling problems so they followed that TSB and it did work or at least seems to have - knock on wood has not done it so far this winter.

My truck has the same problem. Its an 08 with 5.3. It does exactly what you describe about one out of every 10 times. I have not taken it to the dealer yet, but maybe this spring.

I did try that, but when the motor shuts off like that, I think its a safety feature that disables any further ettempts to restart it.

My truck has the same problem. Its an 08 with 5.3. It does exactly what you describe about one out of every 10 times. I have not taken it to the dealer yet, but maybe this spring.

Thanks 08Z, that will be the first thing I do to troubleshoot this problem. If that doesn't work I may try swapping out new spark plugs and a few other things, but I will eventually take it by the dealer and ask them too. It may take a few days but I will post my results out for you all.

My dad (or should I say, my mom) had the same issue with his '07 Suburban until they figured out that my mom, who doesn't use the truck that much was pressing the key fob buttons from lock to unlock to lock (to see lights and hear honk) just before the cold start and about half the time, it would stall. My dad, who uses the cold start regularly and doesn't press the buttons like my mom never had a problem. Conversation with the dealer suggested that they had a bulletin saying that getting too carried away with the key fob buttons just before remote starting can cause the stall for some reason. Suggestion was to follow the owners manual 'exactly' to avoid the stall.

I actually checked the manual to see if I was pressing the buttons incorrectly for some reason, but that really didn't prove to be the issue. When I wake up in the morning before I go to work all I do is hit lock once, and then hold the start until I hear my truck is fully started. I'm pretty sure that I'm not having a seizure with the key fob before doing that, its an issue with the OEM system. But thanks for the suggestion!

There was a document about that somewhere. If you push the lock button twice then push the start button, the computer sees that second lock push as a command to shut down the engine. Push the lock button ONCE, watch for lights to blink. Hold start button down for about 2 seconds and let go. Dont touch anything else. When you cancel the remote start the only way to re-engage it is to open the truck, put the key in, turn it on, turn it off, get out, lock truck, remote start it.

 

I would bet money that is what it is. For some reason the computer does not sequence the commands correctly so make sure you only push each button twice and not too close together.

like i said, i only hit lock once...then start. if you read above i've already gone through the user's manual directions. trust me its not an operator error, i've owned this truck for a year and a half and this was not a problem last winter. the truck starts but then dies after about a second. besides, hitting lock once after starting does not shut down the engine while its running in remote start, you can actually extend the remote start another tn minutes by doing that and hitting the start button again. but two starts is all you get before having to walk out to it, or just one if it dies .

Haven't experienced this yet, but last year whenever I tried the remote start, it would trip a CEL. Took it to the dealer and there was some sensor that was bizerk. Fixed that and now it works like a charm.

i have on 08 with the same thing ive been wondering about it. i press lock once then start and about 1/10 times it will die immediately after starting. it gets the fuel i hear it run for a jiffy but then just stops and wont start till i go out there.

I noticed the same sort of thing when I first got my truck. I'd hit the remote start and hold it for 2 seconds and it would start, then when I let go of the button the engine would die. I've noticed that if I hold the button for another 2-5 seconds after the engine starts it will keep running, every time I try it.

 

Try holding the button down a little longer after the engine starts. It might have something to do with how long the engine has been running while you hold the button down.

My truck does the same thing. Every once in a while it will die right after a remote start. It only started doing this recently, since it turned cooler in the mornings.
