Sub Question

For Xmas i should be receiving 2 Alpine Type R 6.5 component sets for the front and rear. My question is, Which sub would produce better sound or bass. Keep in mind i listen to Nickelback type rock mostly. I am looking at a single 10 or 12" downfire box from subthump. Fits: One 10" or One 12" sub up to 6.5" deep

(magnets must be no more than 6.25" in diameter)

Will also fit 10L5 and 10L7, which is a Kicker Solobaric. I don't want a 10" so which would sound better, a 12" round sub or one of the 10" solobarics? I would be pushing the sub with a Memphis 1000D.

Thanks

hey there ok so solobaric are the best so do that as far as the size it depends on what you listen to as a rocker get a 10 as a rapper get a 12 with the tens they move faster because they are smaller so you get a better reasction time meaning higher frequency with the 12 they have a bigger area and move slower which turns it into a low frequency better for rap i have two 12 (reg) in a down fire inclosed box and i listen to everything and a must get is the bass controller its worth the extra cash get a ported bow if you wanna blow ppls ear drums if not get a inclosed box

That's completely wrong. Subwoofers will play whatever you feed them, the 10's will not play just the higher frequencies and the 12's will not play just the lower. The difference between the two is that the 12" will move more air with less excursion, so generally it will be able to play louder.

I'm not sure how that link is supposed to help here but I am comparing a 10" solobaric vs a 12" round sub.

So will a 10L7 out perform a 12" sub with the specs required above?

I had 2 Kicker S12D4's in a "0.88 cu ft/chamber" box in my 2004 Grand Prix.

With my Sierra, I bought a dual downfire SubThump box and put in 2 10" Kicker L7's in that box.

>> I can say from personal experience, 2 10" L7's kills my 2 12" round SoloBarics!!!! I only have my Kicker DX700 amp @ half-gain because these L7's thump so loud!

EDIT: I forgot to really answer your question Bobby. Get the box with the 1 10" & get the L7. You're gonna find it hard to find a 12" sub with a small enough magnet to fit in that box and be as loud as 1 10" L7.

Thanks, that's what I needed.
