New Member, 2008 Wt, 4.8l - Q:adding Keyless, Au3 And 5b5, No Au0

Hi everyone. Just bought my first new truck ever! - a 2008 Silverado 1500 WT 4.8L, trailering package . I love it! Blew my old 94 S-10's head gasket a few weeks back and couldn't pass up the deals.

I already LOVE this SITE! the DIC upgrade panel is on order. My truck already has tire pressure monitoring and with the new panel, I will have all the DIC buttons, so I can access the "relearn remotes" menu right? I've read this post: remote keyless entry with au3 and 5b5 w/o au0 and am wondering if I will just be able to buy some remotes and program them myself? Or do I need to give the general his due, and have the dealer "flash" the vehicle for the remote entry fobs to work? I don't really want/need the remote start - unless I can add it for a reasonable <300$ price. I THINK from reading a bunch of posts that I need a lot of extra wiring/sensors on hood etc. to add remote start.

would anyone be willing to help figure this out?

I ended up going with a Viper keyless setup (which also has provisions for remote start) instead of the OEM model after two different dealers were unable to make the OEM remotes work with my truck. It may be possible but you are going to have to find a "smarter" dealer than I did... and the two I went to are very highly regarded. One of them is even owned by a friend of mine.

The Viper setup works like a charm.
