02 Silverado Cold Idle Problems

02 Silverado 150,000 miles is having cold idle problems.

Idle varies from 2,000 rpm to barely running several times until truck is warmed up. My local mechanic "is throwing parts " at the problem but it still persists. Any input ?

I would strongly recommend running a BG Fuel Injection/Throttle Body service from a local shop. You likely have carbon buildup absorbing the fuel making it run bad. It cost about $150 here to have a dealership do it. The process involves bypassing the fuel system, running the cleaner through the fuel rails, which your engine runs on for a duration of time. Also, they should be fogging your intake/ports and dissolve the crud in there as well as put some additive in the fuel tank to take care of anything in there.

Ask for the BG Fuel Injection & Throttle Body Service with the 3 part kit using the BG tool.

Made a major difference in my truck. Mine has 135,000 miles and it would hardly start initially, the valves would clatter when warmed up, and it would downshift early when going up hills. Now it starts right up as I hit the key, doesn't clatter anymore, and climbs the same hills without downshifting. Also has better/smoother gitty-up! :jester:

Good luck!

Remove and completely clean the throttle body. The idle air control valve is in there and can get filthy. It controls the air when the engine is cold and shuts off when the engine is up to temp. Cheap fix if it is the problem. I completely dis-assembled and cleaned mine (01 Tahoe) and my rough idle went away. Try it before you start spending $$.
