New Member... '07 Sierra Lift Advice Needed

Please forgive me I know these questions have been asked a million times, I have been reading and searching the forums for the past 4 hours and now I have information overload, I'm totally confused now (knuckle drop, full drop, factory tires, aftermarket, cutting/welding needed/not needed, tire rub etc.....) Hopefully you can lead me in the right direction if I tell you what I have and what I want:

 

I have a stock 2007 Sierra 1500 Extended Cab SLT 4WD that will probably never be off road so I guess I don't need bullet proof gear but I am willing to pay for quality.

I would like...

 

6" lift with ride quality being important, price is not - So that means no added rear leaf right? If I choose a kit that comes with one do I have to use it?

35" Nitto Mud Grapplers - Any thoughts on these tires? Are they really loud?

20x10 MOZ Blackjack wheels - Some of the lift manufacturer's websites that I've checked recommend 8-9 inch wheels with Pro-Comp specifically saying no to 10" but the wheel I want only comes in a 10" and I see others on this board are running 10's. Any thoughts?

 

The Fabtech website says "Crew cab 5.3L and 6.0L only. Call for other apps." Does this mean no Extended Cab? Is this even a kit I should be considering?

Assuming the 10" wheels will work does anyone know what backspacing I need? Will I need flares or mudflaps or both to keep the dirt and rocks from flying?

How crucial is changing gears? I know about torque and fuel economy loss, but it will mostly be street driven by a girl.

I would like to have the option of using the stock tires/wheels if possible.

In a perfect world I would like a kit that requires no cutting of any sort on any part of the truck. I'm not sure if this is possible or not but if I had a choice....

 

I hope this doesn't sound like a ridiculous wish list, I'm just telling you what I would like but I'm totally open to compromise or suggestions of any kind.

 

I really appreciate any thoughts or suggestions.

35" Nitto Mud Grapplers - Any thoughts on these tires? Are they really loud?

 

As far as these tires. Yes, they are noisy and tend to get worse the more they wear. I had a pair of these on my old truck. If you run alot of on road and not to much off you may not get full use out of these. Just my opinion though others may have some better results with them.

a great place to check for info is www.fullsizechevy.com not that this site is bad, but there is more info there as it is a bigger site. with that being said:

nitto mud grapplers are very loud and wear very fast, a 10" wide wheel is a very wide wheel and you will most likely rub pretty bad, however everything changes with different lift companies. different lift companies require different wheel widths, and backspaces. i would try to stay around 9" wide wheels and around 5-5.5" backspace. Pro-Comp is a good kit, and fabtech is good also, however i do not particularly care for them. I have the 6" Superlift kit and am very happy with them and the available options that their kits offer. when doing a lift it's always better to go with new leaf springs instead of blocks, and replacement coil bodys instead of front coil spacers. with 35" tires it's better to have AT LEAST 4.10's gears if not 4.56 gears. obviously price for you is not an option so it would be better to re-gear to one of those ratios so the truck is not a dog and doesn't strain your tranny. you really have to pick a lift kit first and then go from there as everything is based off what kit you choose. another thing you should look into is getting a tune.

    • same here , i have a 2020 first gen and the cost to repair these engines far excedes replacement
    • But Grumpy I did show several subdivisions that had homes starting in the 170K range. If you bought a Townhouse or Condo you could go cheaper. Same with a car 3000 dollars in the 70s translates to around 20K today. There are several models at that price. You actually get more for the money. In the 70s I drove a 3000$ car bought a 28K home and made 4.50 per hour. Thank goodness for overtime. Today I could buy a 170K house drive a 20K car and make 25 dollars an hour operating the same machine today. The difference the house, car, machine would be better and have AC. And I wouldn’t be taxed on overtime. And statistically your wife works too. Easing the burden. I thought we agreed to disagree. I brought receipts earlier, showing examples. I think you’re more stubborn than me. I was done with this debate. 
    • I’m definitely interested to hear the end result here. 
    • My 2025 Silverado 1500 had to receive a brand-new engine (long block) under warranty last month at only around 16,500 miles. Before the replacement, the truck repeatedly displayed "Engine Oil Level Low" warnings, even though the Oil Life Monitor still showed around 50% remaining after about 6,000 miles since my last oil change. After seeing the warning several times, I checked the dipstick with the engine cold, and the oil level was completely normal. The next day, the message escalated to "Add Engine Oil." At first, I assumed it was just a faulty oil level sensor, so I brought the truck to the dealership. After inspecting the engine, they found internal cylinder wall scoring and ultimately replaced the entire long block under warranty. Before this happened, I was planning to install a 4-inch lift and suspension upgrade on my truck. After needing a new engine at just 16,500 miles, I honestly don't see the point anymore. I also contacted GM to ask whether my vehicle qualified for a buyback, but I was informed that it does not at this time. Anyway, this experience has left me with serious concerns about the long-term reliability of this engine. I sincerely hope NHTSA expands the current investigation or recall to include 2025 model and performs a thorough inspection of affected vehicles. My biggest concern is that these engines may fail shortly after the powertrain warranty expires. If GM truly stands behind this engine, then at the very least, please consider extending the powertrain warranty to 10 years for affected owners. That would go a long way toward restoring customer confidence.
    • Without exception but then I'm the odd duck, right? I know what goes into that test, how it is calculated and thus how to beat it. But EPA values are often not beaten by the general public and the government has in past years adjusted the means and methods to come to those values to more closely approximate "Joe Average".    The only real trick to beating that EPA average is don't drive like "Joe Average".    It's the same method you used to profit from "Economic Migration" and in doing so beat the 'stats'. But you, like me, are not "Joe Average".     The thing you don't seem to grasp is this "Purchasing Power Index" isn't forward looking. It doesn't predict what it going to be but looks backward and states what it was. They are not telling us what the THINK, they are telling us what they MEASURED. Example:    Wife says "I'm going to lose 40 pounds by Christmas". May she does, maybe she doesn't but the doctors office who weighed her when she made that statement and again at Christmas only REPORTS what the RESULT was. You and I can banter about what was possible and what aunt Tilly did till the cows come home but the result is the result. Arguing otherwise is.....irrational. That's all I'm saying. This isn't about:      What you are calling a 'Statistic' is a RESULT not a CALCUATION and as a result the RULE. Like gravity as a rule, it can not be broken.
