Photo Request: Gm Windshield Solvent Heater

Recommended Posts

If anyone has the time, could you please take some photos of the stock GM windshield solvent heater and any connecting tubes and wires in their trucks? I am trying to graft one into my truck, and would like to mount it in the same position that GM mounts it. I want to use the HotShot heater, which from what I understand, is the same model GM used in their trucks before the recall.

Thanks!

... the same one that GM issued a recall on that basically forced the company that made them out of business... The same one, by the way, that sometimes shorts out and catches fire -- which is what led to the recall ...?

There have been no actual reports of fires. The recall was due to the potential of a short "which could lead to malfunction and the possibility of smoke or fire".

Yeah, it was just a coincidence that the NHTSA was investigating so-called "unreported" engine fires, for no good reason... right before GM announced the recall.

So far, there exists 41 reported cases of non-crash-related underhood fires, with 16 of those supposedly with the ignition turned off.

I was just stating what the recall said. To date I have not heard or read of one confirmed report of any fires directly related to the washer fluid heater. Until then, it is pure speculation.

I'm not too concerned because the recall fix is just adding an in-line fuse to the power wires, which the HotShot already comes with if you buy third party. The fuse it comes with is a 60amp fuse - the same GM uses when "fixing" the heater issue.

Show me where they are directly related to the washer fluid heater and I will retract my statement. Until then, it is speculation. :D

Yeah, I guess we can all just "speculate" that GM spent extra money they don't have on a recall that wasn't necessary to a part that wasn't defective... and that the company that made said part had to lay off its employees and seek bankruptcy protection (and no one else is buying that product) "because nothing's really wrong with it." Youbetcha! :D

:D

OP : Sorry, but I don't have any pics of it... I just wanted to make sure you knew about the recall, possible potential for fires, etc..

Best of luck! :D

Did I say it wasn't defective? Did I say it wasn't a legit recall? Show me where I said that Michael.

I would also like to see a link to proof about the supplier claims you are making too.

You're not going to admit you were wrong, no matter what I say or post. You never do. You never will.

I'm not wasting my time. Go find someone else to get in a pissing match with, Jeff...

If seperating facts from speculation is wrong, then yes, I was wrong. Until you can back up your claims as FACTS, it is just internet speculation. Go ahead, prove me wrong Michael. You do that and I will freely admit it.

Not trying to get into a pissing match Michael. YOU are the one stating your claims as facts, without backing them up. And then saying I was wrong and won't admit it.

FYI, I had heard that rumor about the supplier too, and when I asked my dealer's SA about it when I had the recall done, he had heard something completely different. Again, I am NOT saying it isn't true, but with contradicting stories from different sources, neither one more credible than the other, until I see FACTS, it is pure rumor and speculation.
