Noise In Reverse

My pops is having a problem when he goes in reverse. He has a 95 G20 van. No problems in drive just reverse. And only when he gives it gas. It makes a big vibrating noise. I put it on jackstands and tried to mimmick the noise with no luck. I'm thinking there is a problem with the rear. Has open rear. Anybody else ever have this problem? Thank you.

I guess no one has ever had this problem.

So many things that could provide this symptom. I don't get how it could be in the rear axle?

 

Here are some things I would check'

 

• Universal joints
  
• Transmission Mount
  
• Bad shocks in rear
  
• rear brakes

Checked the rear just in case. A bad tranny mount will act like that in reverse and not drive?

The mount checked out good. Hoping it wasn't the tranny. Time for a rebuild. Is a 95 van 4l60e tranny the same as a 4l60e from an other 2wd with a V8?

The reverse sungear might be about to break. My old transmission did something similar before it completely broke.

I'll know more about the insides once I take it apart. This will be my second overdrive tranny rebuild. Had no probs with the other tranny.

There were bad clutches. Rebuilt it and all is good.
