Transfer Case Motor Replacement

Trying to replace the transfer case motor on my 1998 Chev Silverado, I've got the thing off However the new one doesn't line up with it and I don't want to force it. How do you get them lined up? Help!

You should be able to shift the transmission stem to the right position with a wrench. You're not supposed to shift the encoder when it's off the tranny so don't do it that way.
