2005 Colorado Cel On And Truck Running Very Bad

ok i have an 05 gmc colorado, truck started running very poorly and the check engine light came on, the truck barely running and keeps stalling out, entire truck is shaking violently just from the engine running so poor. The codes we pulled were P0017 crankshaft poistion /Camshaft position correlation bank 1 sensor B.... And P0300B random - multiple misfire detected.... so i replaced the cam shaft position sensor, and the crankshaft position sensor... fire the truck back up and still the same thing, so i thought maybe the ecu had to learn the new parts, let it run for like 5 min once the truck reaches normal operating temp it smoothes out and runs normal.... any idea what so ever this could be? i pulled the camshaft position actuator out it looks like there should be 4 sets of screens on the thing and one of them was falling off and another is completely gone... idk if these screens are a vital part of the actuator or not but this part is like $250 and i dont wanna just keep throwing parts into this thing if i dont have to.

Codes P0017 crankshaft poistion /Camshaft position correlation bank 1 sensor and P0300B random - multiple misfire detected are commonly caused by a few things on your truck. The most common culprit appears to be the camshaft actuator and the actuator control valve whick is the piece you described with the screens. The camshaft actuator is part of the camshaft sprocket assemly. The mimsfire code could aslo be caused by low compression or a lean run condition as a result of a dirty throttle body or a bad oxygen sensor. Since you have these codes together I would address the p0017 code first because I hava a suspicion that the p0300 code is thrown because of the p0017.

I have seen quite a few timing actuators and solenoids go bad. The variable valve timing components like and need clean engine oil to operate properly. I cheap primary diagnostic or repair would be to clean out the timing actuator solenoid and screens as you described and perform an oil change. The screens are very important because they keep small dirt particles out of the timing system. I have a friend who is a parts guy at a local dealer and he sells quite a few of the timing actuator/sprocket assemblies and the timing actuator solenoid.
