Low Volume Aux Input

Recommended Posts

I just bought my '07 suburban in late November - and finally got around to trying out my new Christmas MP3 playing in the auxillary input. However, the volume is really low - even when I turn up the MP3 player's volume to full level. I just about blew my ears out (not to mention the truck's speakers) when I switched over to FM.

Is the low input a common issue with MP3 players (I've tried my son's MP3 player with the same results)?

i did not notice this on my '08 Sierra with the standard factory CD/MP3/XM radio. volume seemed very similar between AUX and FM. maybe check the manual and see if it says anything about this.

+1 on my '07 Sierra (TomTom, cell phone and MP3 Player all tried via the Aux input)

Never even have to touch the volume when switching back-and-forth......

Now, the TomTom on FM modulated output? DIFFERENT STORY... But that's is a known TomTom characteristic...

It really depends on the particular MP3 Player and the output level on the device. Some devices have a higher output level than others so going through an aux input will be fine. Whereas others have a lower output level which will need a higher volume level on the aux input device. I have noticed this and it varies from MP3 player to MP3 player. There are inline amps you can get to increase the output level of the MP3 player so you don't have to crank the volume level on the stereo.

I read somewhere that your supposed to turn the mp3/cellphone/ipod on full blast..Just keep the device volume at around 70% volume and let the car speakers do the work.

it says that in the manual but in the OP he states he has tried setting his MP3 player to full volume.

Which MP3 player? I know I can adjust the volume on mine using the volume buttons, but there is also a master volume limit in the settings somewhere.

Thanks for all the advice. I checked my MP3 player's settings - internal volume is already set to 'high'. However, I didn't check to make sure the cable was properly seated when I was testing both MP3s. I've also since bought a high-quality link cable - which might help with the data transmission level.

I'll let you know what I find out...

Bump.

Got a new ipod for Christmas...same thing. Volume on the ipod is all the way up and internal settings have been changed to max volume. I've got the bose system...wonder if that makes a difference.

Any ideas?

Mine was fairly low before I upgraded the bose setup. I had an mp3 player on max and struggled to get decent volume out of it. My blackberry is better as you can turn the volume up a little higher. Since upgrading the bose, I don't have that issue as I have plenty of power.
