Bouncing Fuel Gage

For the second time in about 6 months my fuel gage was moving between 1/4 and 1/2 at start up. This morning it was zero degrees outside but the other time it was warm. Anyone else have this happen? I am not looking forward to taking the bed off in this weather, but if it could be affecting the fuel pump I will have to.

Do not know what vehicle you have, some GM Instrument clusters have bad stepper motors. Usually it starts with the speedometer, but others can go out also. I would try some Lucas fuel treatment first. My 01 blazer fuel gauge has been doing the same thing. Fuel treatment seems to help.
