Engine Total Run Hours Changed

I recently obtained a 06 2500HD 6.0 sierra cc slt 4x4. When I bought it had 840 hrs listed and now it changed to 0 hrs. Mileage reading did not change at all 27k and counting. Just to answer the question in advance I'm not ref. to the trip timer function. Any ideas?

Something must of failed internally which would cause this, as there is no way to reset this function using any button on the dash panel. I'm not sure if an advanced tuner could reset this, did you use a tuner programmer at all any time? Perhaps there is a specail battery back up which failed, because if you disconnect the battery, the info will not reset. I'm not 100% how this engine hour timers keep their memory, whehter it be a small battery or an actual chip, but I would sway towards one of the tow "if they use this technology" failed, causing it to default to 0 hours.

Just out of curiousity, has it gotten past 0 yet? Or is it just staying at 0 permantly?

I have also been trying to find this out. I have a 2006 WT w/6.0, my engine hour reset about a year ago and after calling several dealerships they knew of nothing that could reset the meter. I told them that mine did and it was counting up from zero again. They said to not to worry. I just reset again 500 miles back and starting from zeero again.

My truck did this a year ago and the only thing I can recall is that it happened after the coldest night of the year.
