Tow Capacity Differences In Gmt800 Denalis?

Anyone know what changed between the years that altered the tow capacities of GMT800 Denalis? Initially I thought it was curb weights, but those didnt change much between years. Maybe initially over-rated? 2004 saw a new brake booster, but to my knowledge, structurally, nothing should be different between 01-06 right? Anyone know?

2001 = 8500#

2002 = 8200#

2003 = 8000#

2004 = 8200#

2005 = 8200#

2006 = 8100#

I am too lazy to look it up in my towing guide but did you make sure the gear ratios where the same, it makes a difference. Also 2 wh vs all wheel. I was thinking later Denalis could be had with 2 wheel dr or was that the SS. quadrasteer vs non-quadrasteer. Did they have a Denali in 01? I believe the 01 was a GMC C3, the fore runner of the Danili. It was ext cab and I don't believe it was all wheel drive. The truck, not the SUV. :lol:

If we are talking Yukon's here, your numbers might be accurate, but if you are talking the Sierra Denali's, your numbers are a fair bit off. The 2001 was really called the C3 and yes it did have AWD with 3.73 but no Quadrasteer. Aside from the Quadrasteer, the running gear was the same through to 2004 with 4.10's. 2005 to the GMT-800 2007 models were still the same 4.10's minus the Quadrasteer but again, for some reason without the QS, the numbers dropped.

C3 - 8700 lbs

2002 to 2004 - 10,300 lbs

2005 to 2007 - 8100.

It should be noted also that the 2005 to 2007 went from an extended cab to a crew cab which could be a factor in the tow ratings.

Hope this helped.

Maybe there's really no logic to it. For example, the 2008 Sierra Denali AWD is rated 200 lbs. more or less (I can't remember) than the completely identical 2007 truck :)

Whoops. I meant for the Yukon Denali, not Sierra Denali.

Got my info from : http://www.trailerlife.com/output.cfm?id=42175

Some sources put both years at 8400#, some show a 100# difference.

Depends on what youre looking at. If youre looking at the "classic" 2007, then they are not identical. 2007 Classic Sierra Denali was 9900lbs. The 2007 "new" Sierra Denali is 8500#. The 2008 Sierra Denali rating is 8400#s. 100#s I can attribute to heavier truck from options maybe? But for the Yukon Denali between 2001 and 2003, a 500# swing is pretty significant.
