Bad Intake Gasket? Rough Cold Idle

Looking for a quick second opinon here.

My '02 Tahoe 5.3 w/101k mi has been acting up last couple of weeks. When cold overnight (teens-20's) it idles very rough. Races up, then back down. Can't hold steady idle. Can drive it and it runs good/strong. When it warms up, idle is fine except for a slight "skip" at 550 rpm. It if keep tthe rpm's over 750, it smooths out.

Just recently the "service engine soon" light came on.

I dropped it off at the local shop (pretty trustworthy) and they have diagnosed this as cracked intake gaskets. When cold, there is large vacuum leak. As it warms up, crack starts to seal. They mentioned they will need the "upgraded" factory gasket, vs the aftermarket Fel Pros.

Does this sound right? Is this a common problem?

Thanks!

Yup. They may even pull a P0171 or P0174 SES code in some cases, which is Lean Bank 1 and Lean Bank 2.

Intake gaskets are the correct fix.

Dang...I screwed up this reply..............
