Should I Remove My Tune

Recommended Posts

I usually get my oil changed at the dealership near my house. Their prices are ok and they treat me pretty well (usually). I have a Black Bear tune installed and I was wondering if I should remove it and install my stock modules. I know it's easy to swap in and out but while the ECM is like a 1 minute deal, the TCM was kind of a PITA to swap out due to it's odd placement. If I was going there for anything other than a oil change I would without a doubt switch back to stock.

Do you think I would be ok to go to the dealer for a oil change and not have them either A. discover the tune (unlikely) or B. flash over my tune? If I told them not to flash the computer would that raise suspicions?

they would not have a reason to hook into the bus if they are doing an oil change. all the dealerships that I have been to simply run the vehicle onto the lift, pull the drain plug, put new oil in, drop the truck and charge you for it.

+1 They are not going to waste their time on their dime.

Besides, on my experience, they won't even check for a tune unless they have a specific reason to suspect it caused a problem. I had several transmission failures on my Trailblazer SS that had a tune in it...They never said a word about the tune.

Leave it alone!

While swapping may be easy, the harness connectors and the plastic clips/tabs that hold it in are not designed and/or meant to be disconnected/reconnected a thousand times.

If they do happen to reflash, no biggie, Justin will fix ya right up FOC!

If it's just an oil change, leave it in.

When I had my '02 (had a wait4me tune), I used to tell them 'not to reflash without my permission'. Guy at the service desk asked me one day, "which tune do you have?". Then he told me all about his Sierra and all the stuff that was done to it. ;) All depends on your dealership I guess.

I never upload the stock tune from my Predator when I get an oil change.

STFU, this thread is for people with "real" tunes.
