4 Wdr Problem

hi,

 

i have a 2004 silverado 1500 crew cab, i was useing my 4 wheel low today, not that i ever used it, well i put it in just fine, but shifting out of it ,back into 2 wdr and put it in drive, there was just a bunch of grinding, so i shifted into reverce and it was fine then back into drive and it was fine, i did it like 5 times and thats the only way it wont grind it to go to reverce first then drive, is this normal? thanks
