I am unable to remove my oil pan drain plug from the oil pan. It is just spinning. Does anyone have any advise on how to remove? I don't know if it is the pan or the plug.

Thanks for the help

The trick here is to apply pressure behind the head of the drain plug with a small flat bar such as is used to pull nails. This won't work if there isn't enough room to get behind it or if the head isn't big enough. Next I would suggest using a vise grip on it and pull while turning it, watch for those bloody knuckles! You may have to pull the pan to get pressure on the back side to turn it out. Someone else surely has other ideas for you to try!

Good luck...

Ive worked at a dealership before and had this in a few cases. Take a size smaller wrench and hammer it on the bolt, then just turn it off. It's actually really easy

That's not a bad idea if the head was stripped. He says the threads are stripped and the plug bolt is turning without backing itself out.

I think you'll find that it is the plug that's stripped. I was able to remove mine with some vice grips. Good luck.
