Grinding Noise When Backing - Parking Brake Pads?

I hear a grinding noise when I'm backing up. It sounds a lot like work brakes. not tranny. I have looked at the caliper pads (4 wheel disc) and they are all fine. I'm thinking it might be the e-brake pads inside the rear rotor/drum. The e brake does not work well and I adjusted the pads (turned the star device inside the drum...kind of a bitch to do) it a few months ago. The truck is not my daily driver so I'm not really sure when it started, maybe a couple of weeks ago.

 

How hard is it to inspect these? I guess I'll have to pull the tires/calipers/rotors.

 

If you do think this is the problem, how do I go about fixing this? Any link to a repair guide would be appreciated.
