Cruise Crontrol Issue

Hey all i have a 2004 silverado w/ 5.3. Its a z-71 and i went to turn on my cruise control one day and out of nowhere it would not come on. If i watch my light on my guage cluster it fickers when i hit the button. I have checked cruise and stop fuses. I have checked tail lights. They are fine as well as my spedometer is working fine. This is really bugging me since i drive interstate to work. Please help if you can.

Did you check the 3rd brake light?

yeah i checked it and it was fine. I mean i am kinda curious if i should just change the bulbs just in case there is high resistance in one of the lamps.

Well the lights did me no good. Any other suggestions, also thanks for the assistance Draenor. I have most of the dealerships and electrical shops around here confused. So any other ideas would be great. Also is there two switches on the brake pedal? One for cruise and one for lights?

I unfortunately am still trying to fix this issue any help would be great.

My best guess is the CC switch stalk. Brake switch is only one switch with several contacts.

I'd get the car scanned and see if there are any codes stored, if so, give them to us and we'll go from there. Many parts stores will do this for you for free.

I had the same issue on a 96 Gmc Sierra. It just stopped working!

Do you have tilt steering? Do you use it?

That was my problem. I used it constantly and it broke some wires in the steering column. I had it in to an electical shop for some totally different reason and they noticed the broken wires in the column, fixed them and I finally had cruise control back.

I really missed mine also (2 years without). It was nice to have it back
