Steering Clunking

Hey everyone. I have a few quick questions, my steering has started to clunk at low speeds and after looking threw the site and seeing many post about the same problem, i think i can safely say that my steering shaft is gone. My 07 classic has 65500km and after talking to gm customer support they said that i had the extended warranty that is good until 72000km. If i get it replaced is this problem going to go away cause on my 01 they put 4 or 5 and it kept coming back. Oh is the tech bulletin that i can say to the dealer to make sure they change the part or is there a sure fire thing i can tell them to get them to replace the part?

Thanks for your time

I'd say it'll come back, I don't think they ever got around to actually fixing the problem. Best is to just have them lube it every time it starts clunking.

Sup,

Had this problem... Took my truck to a shop told them I had a low speed (parking lot speed) pop in the steering and play at freeway speed. They informed me I need new; upper control arm assemblies, lower control arm assemblies, shocks, sway bar bushings, end links, rack-and-pinion, and tie rods. NO mention what-so-ever about that upper steering shaft link. I am a NAPA jobber store owner. I decided since it was not an alignment issue; that I would order the parts and install them on MY OWN RACK at home. I ordered everything did the install of the parts and took the truck back to the shop and had them align the front end. Popping noise was still prevalent. I have a cousin that worked at a GM Dealership service department (he now works for National Guard as a tank technician) about the noise, with out a breath he said get a new upper steering shaft BUT NOT THE GM ONE. As they have a issue with wear. I remembered right before my truck went out of warranty they replaced that shaft. He recommended ordering one from LMC part # 34-0874. When I received it I was amazed at the difference in weight of the 2 units. I installed the new shaft POPPING NOISE GONE and highway wobble GONE. Turns out the dealer that my cousin worked at had such an ISSUE with the GM part they quit PURCHASING IT FROM GM.......... The first time it was replaced the truck had 35k on it. It started popping again around 90k about 140k, IT HAD DROVE ME NUTS I fixed it with that one from LMC. Its like 350 bucks but its worth, and an added bonus IT MADE the steering response a lot crisper.

So is it worth taking to the dealer if its just going to happen again? Is there any grease nipples that i need to look for? or were do i have to lube it?

The last time I took mine to the dealer for this problem was a little over a year ago. They said they corrected the problem with an updated part. It has been fine so far for me.
