Code After Simple Oil Change

Just changed the oil on my 98 half ton 2wd 5.7 liter. Did everything normal and started it up and there is a code now. Engine runs fine. Have not went over to auto zone to have them read it yet. Figure it just read the oil pressure as low when i started it??? Anybody have similar experiences???

code just went away when i drove home from work today so i figure it was just the new oil working its way through the engine for the first time and set off the oil pressure guage. btw i switched from castrol syntec to valvoline and it is much quieter and the slight leaks stopped!!!

Even if the code went away it's still stored in memory...If your Curious.

 

It could be anything, like an EGR code or O2 sensor on its way out, and just happened to manifest at the same time you chanced your oil.

Sorry... Amsoil is no better than Valvoline synthetic. That is a crazy claim. Both are EXCELLENT products and Valvoline full synth has been getting rave test results. (just like Amsoil does)

Its all good...Pretty much comes down to preference and whatever gives YOU a warm fuzzy feeling. I like RP, its done me no wrong. Even the additives in Dino have gotten better, if you change it every 3K or so....your golden whatever you use, as long as its a decant company...and a new filter every time.

 

I know I don't have to do it every 3K with synth, but I get the stuff for less than the average person pays for a quart of Dino anyway.

 

But lets not turn this into an oil brand bickering thread.....we have enough of those already.

Mobil challenged Castrol's replacement of polyalphaolefins (PAO's) with hydroisomerized waxes in their synthetic formulations. The Bureau ruled in Castrols favor and allowed them to call this hydroisomerized processed petroleum oil a synthetic. The NAD ruled that synthetic was just a marketing term since there was no true definition of what synthetic is. Since then many oil companies have replaced their True Synthetics with this highly refined petroleum oil in place of the more expensive True Synthetic PAO's. These new highly refined petroleum oils are better in quality and performance than the cheaper refined oils, but only come close in some parameters to a True synthetic oil but are cheaper to manufacture.

 

Companies like Amsoil, Royal Purple, Red Line etc continue to market true synthetics, all the oil company brands are the highly refined petroleum described above.

Wow, all that is awesome. I was just messing around. Sure, I sell Amsoil, and I think its great oil or I wouldn't sell it. I could rattle off all kinds of stuff that says its better, But if you keep fairly clean oil in your engine, no matter what brand, you're not going to have an oil related failure.

FWIW the synthetics that come from Dino are so highly modified they really don't contain any dino anymore anyway. Also FWIW if I could find that Shell Rotella synthetic oil in 5-30 i would be all over that. I use the 5-40 in my motorcycle and it performs better than the stuff specifically made for cycles.
