Think You Can Figure It Out ?

I going to keep this as simple as possible with all the info

Truck- 2002 chevy 2500hd 6.0l engine 2wd automatic trans

Ok the truck was working great 100% then i blew a tranny line long story short transmission shop rebuilt the tranny top to bottom with new torque picked up the truck one night after they closed truck ran ok for 5 km then sounded like it was on 4 cylinders bad idiol got it home tightened the battery cables and the next mornige worked fine (this could have nothing to do with problem but just in case i threw it in there).

Babied the truck for two days then i started to drive normal and noticed there was no power something like getting onto the highway was hard you floor it drops the into a lower gear and just revs but just builds speed slowly at 100 you can floor it will down shift and rev and you can hold it for 15 secs and it wont pull maybe just a weeee bit but nothing tranny guy says its not the tranny its the motor took it to a good gm tec who know motors the scanned everything voltages of map and 02 sensor readings he says the motor is fine im stuck with no power and no one responsible if you can help, have ideas or any questions please ask. the truck has been running like this now for over a month did about 3000 km on it no change tranny doesnt get hot or anything, no bloged cats

You can hear the engine running and reving when you push on the gas, but the truck goes nowhere (like it is in neutral?)? Sounds like transmission to me!

(If you stepped on the gas and could not hear the engine respond, then I would say it was the engine...)

+1 - sounds like you need to 'get tough' with your 'so called' tranny guy.....

maybe no where near close.........but i had a engine relaced last year. after it was slow as hell..........once you got on the highway it took forever for it to hit like 65 and it wouldnt go faster then like 85. well it wasnt throwing any codes, the shop couldnt see anything wrong.....a week of it being in the shop they said it was a dirty connection into the tranny........ran like new when i picked it up

maybe take it back and have them check or clean the connections?

Great ideas

- First yes the engine respones when you step on it (one issue it if you just lightly press the gas in that gear enough so that it doest change it acks werid around 2500 3000 rpm )

- second its not that slipping feeling you think of when a tranny is going i went throught that for a week this truck has had it for a month and a half now no change

- the tranny doesnt get hot sometimes just barely moving the needle up two lines could be its -15 here but alittle strange

- when you press the gas to the point where it want to down shift it bumps a little ever so lightly

Now i do belive it is the tranny the problem is unless i can get someone to take it apart and prove what it is i will never see money back .

if you babied the truck you would never know something was wrong shifts decent but the 0 to 120km is wack :-)

feels as if it would drive this way forever no change what so ever no getting worse or anything i hate to see what it feels like towing i guess im looking for someone who might know if the wrong touque converter or something that i can prove would cause this

You're going to need to take it to another tranny specialist and have them run a diagnostic during a road test. If it's the transmission, the computer will reveal it.

You may also learn what the actual problem is from the second opinion.

Then ask the other shop to give you the report in writing as to what they determine to be wrong.

Take said report back to the original shop and leave them a copy of it. If they are still unwilling to make the correct repairs, tell them you're going to hire a lawyer and take them to small claims court, and request your entire amount of money back, as well as expenses for the attorney, time lost from work, and of course the cost of obtaining the second opinion.

I think then your man will play ball and fix the transmission. It's probably just a wiring issue that he overlooked... a speed sensor not functioning properly... hopefully something like that.

You need to be willing to press on with the law suit if he calls your bluff, however...

Post back and let us know what you learn. There were no engine problems going into this transmission rebuild, so it's EXTREMELY unlikely that one developed while the truck was in the shop.

thanks for the input green. for sure i will have to do that

i went out on two drives with the tranny guy while he had this computer hooked up to the truck as for what its reading its all correct the computer calls for a shift its there just not with the power it should as for the wiring the only one thing i did notice is the button on the shifter for the od off is not working so it something but most likely nothing thanks again

Go to another tranny shop and get the line pressure checked, If the rebuild was a R&R they could have slapped together a bad core that could be passing pressure internally, Not to sure what the pressure should be, but minimum 60-80lbs? I know the allys can do over 100psi but can`t remember what the 80Es normally run.
