Demo Derbys

Last summer a buddy and I built up a Newport for a local derby.  Ended up making the finals somehow and placed eighth.  The thing was so messed up we had to use a loader tractor to lift it onto our trailer to get it home.  Since it was so much fun we have two cars we are getting ready to build up for this summer, both were given to us.  We have a Ford Taurus that we finally found a place that has a class for that size, and a Monte Carlo that won't do well at all, but it sure will be fun.  Neither car is in good shape at all, all they do is run and move, so we don't feel to badly about bashing them.

Anyone else ever do this before?  If you are young and haven't done it before I highly suggest doing it at least once.  Man is it fun, where else can you do pit repairs with a torch, sledge hammer, and a big ass prybar?

I love demo-derby cars!

Please put driver side door bars and a fire bottle in with you.

Yep, driver protection is a big thing with the two of us.  Last year we had some good channel iron that we put around the driver compartment, worked well.  Fire bottle, check, mounted right next to the drivers right arm.

Good man!

I see way too many demo and street stock cars without good driver protection.
