Appears they (the safety crew) did not cut the seatbelt. It broke during the impact. Those seat belts can take a #### of a lot more stress that from that accident.

Wow, it also said that from the autopsy the impact from hitting the steering wheel was transfered trhough his jaw to the base of the skull. And that just wearing a full face helmet might have saved his life. Almost all NASCAR drivers wear a full face helmet.

This is a depressing topic... I hate debating who was at fault or why or how.... I'm bummin' it just because Dale is gone. He was my main reason for watching as much Winston Cup racing as I did, and the bottom line is that Dale died doing what he loved... it is by no doubt a crying shame. The only thoughts in the back of my mind are for his family, and the hopes that this kind of freak accident won't ever happen again. Simpson Racing Products make the best equipment available... It was just Dales time...
