Rear End Question...

I have a g80 rear end. How do you know if its the locker, or posi trak?

 

If its a auto lock, does that mean there is no switch? how does it work?

 

BTW its a 95 k1500

G80 means you have a locking differential.

 

it is not posi since it unlocks after 20MPH.

I could be mistaken, but I'm almost positive the trucks always had the auto-locker, and the cars have the posi.

Here is a quote from a GM TSB

 

The use of any additive in locking rear axles (G80) is not recommended. Rear axle additives are designed for use in limited slip differentials which are normally installed in cars. All light duty trucks equipped with RPO G80 make use of a locking differential and the use of additives will delay the engagement of the locking mechanism and may decrease axle life.

Yes they are able to be rebuilt. R & P can be replaced. The locker assembly can be replaced. Are you having a specific problem that makes you think your diffy is going bad? Or do you just want to change ratio?

 

Edit: Nevermind. I see your other thread where you're already discussing changing ratio.

If it's not locked when you enter the corner then it will not fishtail. How fast were you going in the turn around the corner? If I get mine to lock the turn it will fishtail, but it's not quite that easy. Mine is kind of a luck of the draw thing as to whether it will lock on a corner.

Basically making a right hand turn from a red light, so from a dead stop i punch it and nothing. I know that is not an accurate "test" just thought I would ask! I really need to take it out into the MUD!! lol

i thought the GMt-800 bodystyle had the gov loks only

 

the OBS style trucks had a limited slip in them i had thought?
