Gmt900 Dl3 Ds Mirror Wiring Question

I started a topic similar to this in a general forum. I have upgraded the manual inside rear view mirror (isrvm) to one that has Comp/Temp/Dimming with On-star features. I have determined that Pin 5 is the signal to dim the DL3 DS mirror and Pin 16 is the low reference for the DL3 mirror. These come out from the isrvm. I am trying to figure out where these two wires go and I have a feeling it has something to do with the DS door module.

Do I need to upgrade to the door switch that has the option to fold in the mirrors to have the dimming feature? :)

Did you have any luck in figuring this out? I am about to upgrade to the DL3 mirrors and would like to follow up with the rear view if this works out.

I haven't actually hooked up the 2 wires yet, but I did find the answer and posted it on a similar question. Please see this link for more info. Did you install a rear view mirror with temp/comp/dimming as well?

I am looking in to buying one. I have ordered the DL3 mirrors and would like the dimming function. How about the puddle light, can that be made to work? I understand that the power fold would be to much a hassle. I only have an SL sierra. Also, in your posts I noted that I will have to get or wire for the temp sensors, what parts do I need to order to make the rear view work? Well, I should also ask, what model/part number for the rear view? I have on-star and I have just been looking on ebay for a mirror with these functions. Your posts have been very informative. Thank you.

Its kind of an interesting story how I found the isrv mirror. I first called the dealer to see how much one would cost and asked for the GM part number. I then went to Ebay and was fortunate to find one out of a 2007 Equinox with that part number for only $50.00 with shipping :D . Unfortunately I don't have the number because the Ebay add has expired. Maybe the mirror I have installed has it somewhere, I'll check and get back with you. You just need the ambient air temperature sensor and 3 wires to make it work.

My DL3 mirrors have puddle lights as well and I am pretty sure the wires for these are on the white connector I tied off to the side. It would be interesting to know when these come on i.e. open door, unlock door with remote, etc.

Based on what I have seen and read the door modules made for the DL3 mirrors have different connectors to plug into than our DL8 one's. I'll probably have to get the wiring diagram for the DL3 modules to figure out which wire goes where and make my own connector to get everything to work. Its a good challenge for an Electrical Engineer... Thanks for the kind words...

I saw one on ebay that looked complete with temp sensor and wires for $94, just need to verify part number. I forget what kind of truck it came from. From the pictures, it looks like the part numbers are stamped on the back of the mirror.

About the puddle lights, I was thinking that maybe it can be tapped off the dome light at the fuse box. That way when the you unlock the truck with your remote the dome and puddle light come on, then when the domes go out the puddles would too. That is if the door switches don't have that feed already somewhere. What do you think?

Here is the GM part number you need for the isrvm 15139492. It's almost $345 with shipping from gmpartsdirect. Ouch!! :D Stick with Ebay but try to verify the GM P/N if you can. $94 for all of that is pretty good if its in fact the right part number.

It makes sense the puddle lights come on anytime the dome lights are on. The tricky part is locating the relay the dome lights connect to and then tap into it somehow. Maybe just listen for the relay that closes (activates) when you turn the dome lights on at the switch or when opening a door? Its probably in the fuse box under the hood. When I install the wires for the dimming I'll investigate. :rollin:

Great, thanks for all the info. I'll have to wait until after tax day and after I get the parts in to start playing with the truck, when I have some time. I'll let you know how it goes. :rollin:

On these GMT900s the BCM itself powers up the dome lights, so there's no relay to find, you have to find the wires. I posted the wires for someone else in another thread not long ago. There was 1 circuit for the interior domes and 1 circuit for the CHMSL which turns on when the domes go on, I guess, maybe I'm wrong about that one.

EDIT: just went to my truck to see, the CHMSL turns on when the dome lights go on only when you rotate the dimmer knob all the way on. Unlocking the doors do not turn on the CHMSL so you'd want to splice into the circuit for the domes only.

I finally got a isrvm. Got it for $30 shipped. It has these numbers on it 025898 GNTX-511 on one side and 15269045. Someone else had posted on another thread that those were the numbers from the back of their mirror. I plugged it in and tested the phone feature and it worked, hope all the other stuff works as well when I can get it connected.

I ordered a temp probe, which I am now waiting for. Now I just need instructions on installing the wires. Where do I get the pin connectors to install in the mirror plug? and where is the best place to tap for power? I assume that the temp probe wires just go stright to the mirror.

Any help is welcome.

Pin connector info...

Or go to a wrecking yard and get the same type connector, cut the plastic off the connector with diagonal cutters and a utility knife. Then you can remove one pin along with its attached wire. Then you can insert the pin into a connector which is missing a pin and crimp a wire to the wire already attached to the pin.

When gathering connectors at the wrecking yard, be sure to leave about 8 inches or so of wire on the connector (take wire cutters with you of course).

Thanks Bill, I don't know what type of pin is in the mirror connector so I will go with looking for a used 16-pin connector.

Any 2000-2007 mirror connector with wires will work, I think I found mine out of a 2002 silverado. I did the same thing Bill is suggesting. The tricky part is getting the wires through your firewall. I used a thermocouple type of wire that has two wires insulated together and passed them through the large rubber grommet with all the other wiring. This way you only have to pass the set of wires for the temp probe and 1 additonal one to the ignition fuse block under the hood.

Good info. Where at the fuse block do I connect? Correct me if I am wrong, but I though it would be inside with switchable power desired. I need some help. From the pin out list you posted before, two wires for the temp probe, a high and a low ref, does it matter which wire from the probe goes where? The power wire, to that pin (pink wire position, I think it was) right.

Have you tried connecting the two wires for the outside mirror dimming?
