2003 Silverado Trailer Connector

I recently discovered a single wire behind the factory electrical trailer connector, which breaks out of the harness to the connector. It terminates in a small cylindrical connector with an attached snap-on cover. I have not been able to find any info on this, so if anyone has any idea what it's used for, I'd appreciate an answer. I have attached a picture of this.

Vic, welcome to the forum. If the wire in question is light blue in color, it is possibly the CHMSL ( Center High Mount Stop Light) provision which is there in case you have that arrangement on a trailer. Check it with a test light if you have one. I could be wrong but it's worth a shot.
