Mirror Shake?

I've been noticing this problem for the last 8 months or so...when I hit highway speeds (about 60 mph), my driver's-side side mirror glass starts to shake. I looked at trying to take it apart last weekend, to no avail. I can push on the glass and it is loose. Is there something in behind the glass that needs to be tightened? If so, how do I get it apart to fix this? OR, do I need a new mirror.

Also, I JUST noticed this after a year of owning this truck: the driver's side mirror has a thick plastic 'trim' around the mirror glass. The passenger's side mirror doesn't (the glass has a 'clean' edge). Is this the way it's supposed to be?? If it's not supposed to be this way, which style is right for a 2003 Sierra?

Man...all the wonders I'm finding with this truck...

My Driver Mirror Is the same way it drives me crazy, As for the trim your talking about is green tint that comes on at night for the cars dont blind you from behind with there lights. Just like your rear veiw mirror.

Same issue with me and I hate it. I don't know how to fix it though. I've found a lot of little things like that on my 2005 compared to the '98 I had, GM is definately 'value engineering' the trucks now.

Lately I need to "fix" many things that I buy new to get them to work properly...

If this is just a basic mirror which is all as one unit and you turn the whole works to adjust it (as opposed to the type where you just press on the glass to adjust it but the case stays put - or an electric mirror - or a mirror with any kind of electrical gizmos inside like heated or turn signal.)

Then maybe you could squirt something back behind the mirror like silicone? But you would not want to do this if any electrical gizmos inside the mirror.

there should be some type of "washer" or rubber gasket that sits in between the mirror (glass) and the puck (whether you have the power motor or not). I found this out the hard way when I added the signal mirrors. The rubber gasket that Muth had supplied me was not thick enough so I went to the hardware store and bought a couple of gaskets and a screw clamp. Installed it and now it will 'flutter' once in a while (like once every 4 months)...

Anbody have any ideas why I have the 1/4" black plastic trim around my driver's mirror glass and not the passenger's? Maybe the previous owner had the passenger's mirror replaced with a newer one for some reason?

That is to protect the glass from cracking/shattering...you should have the auto-dimming feature (when the glass turns green...) and the electrochromic fluid can damage your paint if spilled...

So you're saying that the two mirrors are SUPPOSED to be different (in that respect)? Because the passenger side doesn't have this 'trim'...

that is correct. the Drivers Side mirror and rear view mirror that is on the windshield contains the electrochromic fluid in them and this can cause damage. the passenger side mirror does not contain any electrochromic fluid, therefore it does not darken and it also does not need the 1/4 inch trim since it does not need any real protection...

Yeah mine does the same thing and drives me crazy. And my driver side is also different from my passenger side, I never noticed until I saw this thread. I always feel like the glass is going to fall out or something at least I know I'm not the only one with this problem!

Bugshields...it looks like a few of you have these in your Sig Pics...Bugshields cause Turbulance which makes the mirror shake!
