Pitman Arm And Idler Arm Removal

My steering got sloppy and tires started wearing out on my 2003 2500hd 6.0. so i bought a front end rebuild got all the ball joints tie rods and all removed. i got the nuts off the pitman arm and the idler arm. i just can seem to get the pitman arm and idler arm off. what do i need to do to get them off.

Im about to do this anybody help out but mines a 8.1 not 6.0 not sure if that matters.

There is a pitman arm puller. Either buy or do the loan a tool at the parts store.

Do i have to unbolt the steering box to use the puller?
