Does anyone know the max. depth of speaker that will work in a 2003 GMC Sierra?

Don't know why this isn't easy to find. I've searched the forums and Google to no avail.

Help is appreciated.

I've been trying to figure out the same thing for a 2003 Suburban, most of my research has seem to find that 2" or less is the depth requirement. This normally means using as slim mount type speaker. I've read there is actually more depth in the door panel then 2", but with the window full down, anything longer then 2" would obstruct the window.

When I have questions like this I check the crutchfield website. They tell you what speakers will fit and by looking at the speaker mounting dimensions you can get an idea for what will work.

I'm not a fan of crutchfield. They don't actually give you the vehicle speaker dimensions, they only filter out the speakers that won't fit. If you want to pay 2x what you would pay elsewhere for a limited list of brands, I guess crutchfield is OK.

Your money will go much further at www.woofersetc.com (or ebay) given you know the proper dimensions.

Where do I start? I said, they tell you what speakers fit and then you look up the speaker mounting dimensions. I don't expect them to tell you your door dimensions but if you look up Kicker 6 1/2" speakers and see that the mounting depth is 2.5" I would assume that you have at least 2.5" to work with.

Likewise, i'm not sure what audio shops you have nearby but Crutchfield is always at or lower than any price locally for me for the same item. When you add in the extras it's often a no brainer for me. they sell all the top name brands that people recognize and their customer service has always been good. I wasn't trying to push the company or recommend buying from them. I was just trying to offer up a place to find stuff that would fit and therefore get dimensions.

I have neer heard of the other website you mention, but as far as fleabay goes, you often get what you pay for. Sometimes the communication or CS is bad and sometimes you get junk. if everything goes well them more power to you.

Whew...never intended to start an argument, but as far as my two cents...Crutchfield is a pain. Sure, they weed out the speakers that won't fit, but that's not what I'm asking.

I thought I asked a simple question. Has nobody, for example, bought a 2.5" door speaker and had their window hit it? Has nobody taken their door panel off and actually measured the distance from door metal to window (fully down)? How about measuring the depth of the factory speaker once it's out?

Sure, Crutchfield will tell you that a speaker won't fit, but I'd rather have the actual depth dimension, so if it comes down to a couple crucial 1/16", I will know.

Anyway, thanks for the replies so far. Anyone actually have the dimension? :wtf:
