Hi, Guys! What Are Your Thoughts?

This is a really nice site, guys! After a bit of lurking, I think this is probably the best forum I've been on in nearly 2 years.

Anyway, thought I would introduce myself and get some opinions. Let me start by giving you my background... First, I've always been a Ford guy and I would have never considered buying a GM. The fact is, I really like the new GM trucks. My wife and I drove one for about 3hrs on Saturday and we both loved it. It's a 2007 Silverado 1500 CC 4x4 (new body). It's white, LT, 4.8L, AT (4spd), and it's got about 42k on the ticker.

First, anything I should be aware of with the 4.8L? I was nervous about it at first but the more I drove it, the more I felt it was plenty powerful enough for us. We likely won't ever be towing much more than maybe a a couple quads, and old air-cooled v-dub, or maybe a small camper. But even thats pretty far down the road.

You can take a look at the truck here: http://www.goautochevrolet.com/VehicleDetails/358880763

Dealer was asking $24,400 a week ago, now I see they dropped the price to $22xxx. However, before we ever drove it, the sales guy said he could sell it for about $20k. Is this a good deal?

The only thing I don't like about the truck is the wheels but I've changed wheels on about everything I've ever owned so not a big deal.

Thanks for the input guys and again, this is a great forum!

I can't comment on the 4.8 for towing, As I've never driven a 4.8, but as far as pricing, I wouldn't pay more than about 17k for a 2007 4.8 w/ 42k on it.

Hey there and welcome to GM Trucks! :wtf:

A nice looking truck. Given it's a WT (work truck) and a good number of miles for an 07, I wouldn't go over $20k for it. The 4.8 is a good engine.

nice looking truck, but 17K is about where it should be priced. Its not loaded with all the bells shouldnt pay for them! But it looks nice, and if its what you want then just make sure you pay a price you feel its worth

Thanks for the quick comments, guys. Keep 'em coming!

You guys really think I could get it well below $20k? I should note the truck is exceptionally clean. I don't think it's ever left the pavement.

Will the dealer let it go for $17k? hard to say, as we don't know what they gave for it on trade, how long it's been there, or what they have into it in general, but a truck with those specs shouldn't be hard to find in the ballpark of $17k.

Welcome!

Why are you looking at a used WT? With GM having all these issues they're desperate to move new vehicles. There are HUGE incentives right now... and from what I heard yesterday the US Gov is in the process of possibly putting together some programs that would allow new car buyers to deduct their federal exise tax on new cars bought between now and the end of the year. If I were in the market for a car, i'd definitely be buying new... besides,i don't know if you're planning to finance or not, but either way they're probabaly still running 0% financing. Free money is free money. Put you money away, and take advantage of it.

Not to mention you said you didn't like the wheels... :wtf: Have you driven any other GM trucks? You should drive all the different engine sizes, cab configurations, and packages before you pull the trigger. If you like the WT, i'm sure you'd love a Z71 CC. :D

Just my 2 cents.

Good luck, and happy hunting!

Post picks once you've made your purchase.

Thanks

I'm confused. Why is everyone calling it a work truck? It's got carpet, pw/pl, cruise, cd, a/c, etc. Is there something I'm missing here?

As for buying used, we are planning to finance and we have a budget we need to stick to. Buying anything over $20k pretty much breaks the budget (one you take acct our trade we're about $5k upside down in). Our salesman told us that we would not be able to get into a new 4x4 CC within our budget. Is he feeding us a line?

Mostly due to the interior. There are two different styles of interior available in the GMT900s, the upscale version that's taken from the Tahoe/Yukon, and the other, generally referred to as the Work Truck interior.

and also because the desription on the dealer's site says:

"2007 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 4WD Crew Cab Short Box Work Truck"

I think we all missed the LT on the tailgate! Dont worry about it, mine is also a LT and people think its a WT because of the wheels, and I searched for a red one with these wheels, i like the different look, and i dont like the blaaaa silver ones.

When you factor a trade-in, and all the other stuff its hard to say but I will tell you that a guy I work with bought a 2006 same as mine last march (i know well because the only difference from mine is the blaa wheels and he has a two tone silver/tan on the bottom, we make fun of him all the time because about a week after he got it he was trying to open mine with his key pad). well this was a year ago with 31k miles and in like new condition he paid 18,999. now going forward a year this would be about the same as your truck. then you can factor in a weaker truck market and go tell the dealer to make a real offer!

Well, ok. I guess it's ok as long as it doesn't "feel" like a work truck to me. It never did on Saturday. I also think some subtle mods will set it apart from the rest too.

I'm really surprised to read what you guys would be willing to pay for it. I feel a bit more prepared now.

Tell him 20K out the door, or walk. :wtf:

I'd pay off what you have first. Or sell it privately.

I would love to sell it privately but unfortunately it's an '06 Ford Fusion and it's not worth jack now. I see them for sale now for less than what we owe. They've gotten really soft in value and it makes me sick to my stomach. I'd keep the car but I hate it and it's just not as useful for us as a truck would be. Shoving it off a cliff would pretty much solve that problem though.

I mentioned before that I've always been a Ford guy. After typing the above paragraph, I just realized something.... Every Ford I've ever owned has gotten real soft in value not long after I bought it. I think I'm done. Let's hope GM treats me better.
