Truck pulls

Tonight I went to our fairs tractor pull, where they finished the night out with a street legal 4x4 pickup pull.  I was shocked at the number of brand new trucks entered, Chevy HDs, new Ford Super Dutys, a few new Dodges.  Sure wouldn't see me entering one if I had a brand new thing.

To play with the big boys you had to have a three quarter ton or one ton truck with a big block or diesel.  Those poor fools with the half tons should have stayed home, small block v-8s seemed to run out of power about three quarters the distance the big blocks made it.  One Duramax pulled and he did the best of all the Chevys new or old entered, outdid the Powerstrokes and the lone Cummins entered also.  The newer Fords didn't do so hot, but the older ones were OK.  Not many Dodges were in it, but they were all 1500s, so they didn't have a chance, one Cummins was in it and had a respectable finish.  What none of them came close to touching were the two old IH trucks.  They just kept going and going.  The one that won it snapped a U joint while he still had a few feet left in him, yet won by about 10-15 feet.  Goes to show you that they just don't build trucks like they used to.

I really don't know much about truck pulls, but when these guys start getting serious, the Dodge/Cummins combo is basically unbeatable.  I need to get RedDog to post about this, because he knows alot more about truck pulls then me.....

At local county fairs you will see a lot of the locals that think they have a "bad truck" enter.  Depending on the weight class,, 1/2 tons can pull just fine.

If I had a new truck, I would pull it.  It is under warranty should something go wrong, but I doubt it..  Todays trucks have factory built in rev limiters,, you ain't going to hurt the motor,, if you do, it wasn't build right to begin with..

I am diehard GM,, but for diesels right now,,, Dodge Cummins is virtually the best combination out there for pullin,, with the standard tranny.
